Jackie-Wade-Norman-Larry-Rick

The SUPERHEATERS were a five-man band that played good-time rockin' blues. Comprised of veteran musicians (representing nearly 100 years of professional experience, in fact), they came together to express their love of rhythm & blues. The band consisted of:

Norman Brien - lead vocalist with a rich, warm voice that's instantly believable as a purveyor of the blues. After a long professional career in music, Norman went on as one of the founding members of Big Brewster and the Blue Rocks, where he played bass guitar and provided all of the group's backup vocals.

Rick Winters - lead / rhythm guitar, long known throughout the area as the founder and driving force behind The Jailtones which was preceded by a long stint with the The Artistics, LTD., leading both of these very popular bands for nearly 20 years. Rick also played in the Blue Rocks, where he met Norman and was inspired to build a new band around his amazing voice... The SUPERHEATERS!

Wade Mathias - lead / rhythm / slide guitar and vocals, known primarily as a founder of the X-Raves, a very high energy band during the early '80's. Wade was also a founding member of the Blue Rocks. Wade and Rick met in high school and remained good friends ever since, playing in several bands together including Herbie and the Outta Sites! and Wynter. In The SUPERHEATERS, as two guitarists with extensive experience, they consistently "ripped it up," occasionally dueling it out on the dance floor.

Jackie Shelton - electric bass, one of Hampton Roads' most experienced musicians with a sensitive playing style and a special bass tuning method that helped propel The SUPERHEATERS with a rock solid foundation that was unique. His long-time contributions to the local music scene include being a founding member of The Rhondels, one of the area's best known bands.

Larry Branham - drums and vocals, always a well-known fixture in the local blues scene with his "just layin' it down" style in such popular groups as The Blues Defenders and Blues Avenue. Larry's been called "the best blues drummer in the area," and we agree. If there's a groove to be had, Larry's always right at the bottom of it!

Needless to say, with all this experience, this was one band that knew how to party! If you wanted to dance or just listen to some excellent musicianship, The SUPERHEATERS knew how to deliver a smokin' good time.
